Initiatives

UH360 Initiatives
Our initiatives seek to enhance the impact of our work beyond the sphere of science. They build on areas in which we have international scientific leadership and explore all possible elements of research translation in order to provide solutions to current key challenges both in global health and health in the Global South.

Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health
Working to accelerate progress in women’s and children’s health in order to advance the sustainable development agenda.

Nutrition
Scaling up the delivery of low-cost, high-impact nutrition interventions, prioritizing women, adolescent girls and children in Asia
LEVERAGE: Integrating nutrition across sectors, strengthening local ownership and developing innovative

Infectious Diseases
Our aim in this initiative is to contribute to the international effort to prevent, treat and control infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, dengue fever, chikungunya, pneumonia, cholera and malaria.

Malaria Elimination
Through this initiative, we hope to contribute to the global effort to eliminate and eventually eradicate this life-threatening disease.

Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)
Safe and sufficient WASH plays a key role in preventing numerous NTDs such as trachoma, soil-transmitted helminths, schistosomiasis and diarrhoeal diseases

Non-Communicable Diseases
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and chronic lung disease, are collectively responsible for more than 70% of all deaths worldwide, 85% of which occur in low- and middle-income countries

Air Pollution, Climate and Urban Environment
To strengthen the knowledge in the field of exposure, health effects, mechanisms, and health impact assessment of air pollution, natural environment, noise, temperature and active transportation, particularly in global contexts where little research has been conducted previously, with the aim to improve healthy urban living.
To develop novel exposure assessment/epidemiological/statistical methodology applied to air pollution, green space, temperature, noise, and active transportation research.

Urban Planning, Environment and Health
We aim to apply rigorous scientific evidence, tools, and indicators to promote sustainable and healthy urban development.

Antimicrobial Resistance
We contribute to the understanding of the causes and risk factors for antimicrobial resistance, and to the development of new drugs and vaccines.

Education & Training

  • Capacity Strengthening
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Research Capacity Strengthening
  • Capacity strengthening activities using a results chain approach
  • Strengthening the scientific capacities of Asian research institutions

Policy Analysis and Global Development
Conduct studies, produce analyses, and organise seminars on topics such as infectious diseases, the new climate and environmental challenges as determinants of health, and the principle of equity as a parameter in priority setting. Engage in community-collaborative research engagement, translation, and discussion.

Knowledge Creation: Scientific Research and Research Translation
Focus on its research efforts on infectious diseases , non-communicable diseases and environment. Its multidisciplinary approach allows it to encompass a wide range of fields and topics, ranging from molecular biology to clinical and epidemiological research. Provide opportunities for community-collaborative research engagement, translation, and discussion.
